Meet frequent flyer Kevin Barasia

By Joe Humphrey

He’s a frequent traveler, but Kevin Barasia doesn’t have a favorite destination. The one closest to his heart, he said, is the “most recent place I’ve ever been.”

Barasia, a junior studying advertising, public relations and journalism, has visited family in India, gone down under to Australia and explored Peru, Costa Rica, New Zealand and parts of Europe. Eventually, he would like to work for National Geographic, a departure from his original intent as a student at UT, which he entered as an international business major.

“I decided to switch it up,” he said. “I love writing, I love working with people.”

Barasia came to UT from Northern Georgia, and enjoys the small classes at the school. He plays intramural sports and volunteers with the PEACE club.

He lives off campus with his Cavalier dog, Sonny.

“Just me and my dog,” he said.

He encourages students coming to college to not party too much and to stay focused, but notes he is on campus this summer to help make up for a rocky path from his early college days. Still, he admits those experiences created fodder for some writing in his Creative Non-Fiction class.
